Surkhandarya region has over 150 cultural heritage sites, including the complexes of Al-Hakim at-Termizi, Sultan Saodat, Kokildor Ota, and Kyrkkiz.
The mountainous areas of Hissar, Boysuntag, Kuhitang, and Babatag hold significant potential for developing mountaineering, trekking, and ecotourism. With comprehensive utilization of these opportunities, tourism revenues could reach $1 billion annually, according to a February 27 statement from the press service of Uzbekistan's President Shavkat Mirziyoyev following a meeting on the region's socio-economic development.
It is reported that the Eski Termez monument has not been fully studied to date. Developing tourism around Buddhist heritage sites—Fayaztepa, Karatepa, Dalvarzintepa, and Zurma—could increase the annual tourist flow to 500,000 people from East and Southeast Asian countries.
It was also noted that over 8,000 young people in Surkhandarya regularly practice kurash. This year, instructions were given to create a modern training base for wrestlers at the "Zamondosh" camp in Denau.
Regarding the boarding school in Boysun, the need to ensure conditions for combining sports training with full-fledged general education from the new academic year was emphasized.
