The Ministry of Transport of Uzbekistan has submitted proposals to the Legislative Chamber of the Oliy Majlis to increase fines for fare evasion on public transport. The initiative aims to strengthen payment discipline among passengers.

Under the proposal, a first-time fare evader would face a fine of 0.5 BRV, which from September 1 will amount to 220,000 soums. For a repeated offense, the fine would rise to 1 BRV, or 440,000 soums.

Currently, the fine for riding without a ticket on city and suburban buses, trolleybuses, and trams is 10% of the BRV, or 41,200 soums. The new system would significantly increase penalties.

It is worth recalling that over the first six months of 2026, more than 82,000 fare evaders were detected on the capital's public transport, and over 2 billion soums in fines were collected from them.

Starting September 1, the payment procedure will also change: passengers must pay the fare immediately upon entering the bus. Otherwise, a controller will record the violation and bring the offender to liability under Part 5 of Article 144 of the Administrative Liability Code of Uzbekistan.
