The Ministry of Health of Uzbekistan, the Abu Dhabi Fund for Development (ADFD), and the United Nations Office for Project Services (UNOPS) have signed an agreement to develop a new 300-bed multidisciplinary hospital in Beshkent, a city in the Qashqadaryo region. The agreement was announced by UNOPS.
The agreement, signed on August 7, 2026, covers the second component of a project aimed at improving medical services in the region. This component will be financed by the Abu Dhabi Fund for Development.
The project is part of the Uzbek government's program to modernize the healthcare system. It is based on a presidential decree issued in February 2024, which calls for the construction of new multidisciplinary hospitals in Qarshi and Beshkent, as well as equipping them with modern medical equipment.
The new hospital in Beshkent will replace existing infrastructure. Current buildings do not fully meet construction requirements, seismic stability standards, or modern healthcare service standards. The new facility will offer obstetric, pediatric, surgical, infectious disease, pathology, and outpatient services.
Two other components of the project were signed in November 2025, covering the development of healthcare infrastructure in Qarshi and other districts, as well as the introduction of telemedicine services across Qashqadaryo. These components are financed by the Islamic Development Bank.
The total project cost is approximately $127.1 million, with $84.6 million provided by the Islamic Development Bank and $42.5 million by the Abu Dhabi Fund for Development.
UNOPS has developed feasibility studies, architectural, and engineering designs for the Qarshi and Beshkent hospitals. The main goal of the project is to expand access to quality medical services for the population of the Qashqadaryo region.
