In Khiva, a branch of Liaoning Pedagogical University and the Confucius Institute have started their operations. On August 17, President Shavkat Mirziyoyev familiarized himself with the activities of the new educational institutions during his visit to the Khorezm region.
The new educational complex was established jointly by the Ministry of Higher Education, Science and Innovation, Urgench State University named after Abu Rayhan Beruni, and China's Liaoning Pedagogical University. 140 billion soums were allocated from the state budget for its construction and equipment. 120 new jobs have also been created here.
The complex is designed for several areas of training and includes educational buildings for 560 places, a library, a gym, a cultural palace for 200 places, and a canteen for 118 places. A separate four-story building houses classrooms for 628 more places and a dormitory for 224 students.
For 2026, the admission quota is set at 160 people. In the future, it is planned to increase it to 500 students per year, and the total number of students to bring to 2,000.
Training will be conducted in full-time and distance forms in Uzbek, Chinese, and English. At the bachelor's level, students will be trained in the areas of "International Education in Chinese", "Tourism Management", "International Business", and "Artificial Intelligence".
The master's program includes programs in teaching methods of Chinese language and culture, education management, as well as artificial intelligence and educational technologies.
The branch's diploma will be recognized in Uzbekistan directly. The best graduates will be given the opportunity to continue their education on a grant basis at leading universities and undergo internships in large organizations in China.
The emergence of new educational programs is also associated with the growing cooperation of the Khorezm region with Chinese investors. Currently, 38 large projects with their participation are being implemented in the region with a total value of $2 billion 343 million.
These enterprises need specialists who know modern technologies and the Chinese language. Therefore, the new educational institution and the Confucius Institute should help provide the region with the necessary personnel.
The President emphasized the need to link educational programs with the needs of the economy and the labor market. Particular attention, according to him, should be paid to ensuring that students acquire modern professional skills and are fluent in foreign languages.
During the visit, the head of state was also presented with a unified national tourism platform and support measures provided for entrepreneurs working in the tourism sector.
