On September 2, President of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev visited the Islam Karimov Scientific and Educational Memorial Complex and laid a wreath at the foot of the monument to the first president. This was reported by the press service of the head of state.
During the ceremony, verses from the Quran were recited and prayers were offered. The participants highlighted Karimov's contributions to the country's independence, ensuring peace and stability, and improving the well-being of the people.
Representatives of the chambers of the Oliy Majlis, the Presidential Administration, the Cabinet of Ministers, ministries and agencies, as well as intellectuals and the public of Tashkent, also laid flowers at the monument.
It is noted that commemorative events were also held in Samarkand and Karshi.
Exactly 10 years ago, on September 2, 2016, the official announcement of the death of the first president of Uzbekistan, Islam Karimov, was made on state television. He passed away at the age of 78 after suffering a stroke a few days earlier.
