As part of his state visit to South Korea, President Shavkat Mirziyoyev held a meeting with the Speaker of the National Assembly, Cho Jeong-sik, on September 15. The presidential press service reported this.
During the talks, the role of parliaments in developing the special strategic partnership between the two countries was highly praised. The parties noted the active work of interparliamentary "friendship groups," regular visits, and established exchange of experience between relevant committees.
It was noted that currently, with the support of the Korean National Assembly and the KOICA agency, an "Electronic Parliament" project is being implemented in the chambers of the Oliy Majlis of Uzbekistan. This project aims to digitalize parliamentary activities and increase transparency.
At the meeting, the need was emphasized to create a cooperation mechanism for parliamentary monitoring of the implementation of high-level agreements in trade-economic, investment, and cultural-humanitarian spheres. The parties agreed on joint measures in this direction.
Furthermore, the parties agreed to hold a number of joint events in parliamentary diplomacy on the occasion of the 35th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations in 2027. These events will serve to further strengthen bilateral ties.
Earlier, it was reported that within the framework of cooperation between Uzbekistan and South Korea, promising projects worth about $12 billion had been prepared. The parties agreed to expand cooperation in trade, critical minerals, transport, and infrastructure. The elevation of the strategic partnership to a new level was also discussed.
In addition, the two countries signed 13 documents. Among them are agreements on the purchase of eight high-speed trains, the establishment of a national genomics center and biobank, the development of projects in the critical minerals sector, and the introduction of artificial intelligence in industry. These agreements are aimed at developing various sectors of Uzbekistan's economy.
