Uzbekistan, Tashkent – AN Podrobno.uz. In Kushtepa district of Fergana region, embezzlement of budget funds during street repairs has been uncovered. On paper, more asphalt was recorded than was actually laid.
The inspection was conducted by the regional department of the Department under the Prosecutor General's Office for Fergana region. It was established that the district landscaping department purchased 6,084 tons of asphalt from a private enterprise for a total of 3.9 billion soums.
However, in the work completion acts, officials inflated the figures by adding 283 tons of asphalt on 61 streets in 26 mahallas where no work was actually carried out. As a result, 158.7 million soums were embezzled.
A criminal case has been initiated under Article 167 ("Embezzlement through appropriation or misappropriation") and Article 228 ("Production, forgery, sale or use of documents, stamps, seals and forms") of the Criminal Code.
An investigation is currently underway. Earlier, in two districts of Jizzakh region, more than a thousand tons of asphalt worth over 670 million soums disappeared.
