The Central Bank of Uzbekistan has announced the release of commemorative gold and silver coins dedicated to the 46th World Chess Olympiad, currently taking place in Samarkand. The design of the coins will combine chess symbols with the city's architectural heritage.

The main feature of the coins is the concept "Two coins — one Registan." When placed side by side, the gold and silver coins form a single image of the facade of Registan Square. This idea aims to reflect the strategic significance of chess and the rich history of Samarkand.

The obverse side of the coins will depict architectural elements of the Tillya-Kari Madrasah in Samarkand, silhouettes of chess pieces, and geometric patterns. According to the designers, these symbolize strategic thinking, intellectual leadership, and unity, as well as Eastern architectural heritage.

The reverse side will feature the logo of the International Chess Federation (FIDE) at its center. The gold coin will also bear the inscription "Central Bank of the Republic of Uzbekistan," while the silver coin will have the same in English. Both coins will indicate their denomination.

The coins will be made of 999.9 fine gold and silver. Each will weigh 31.1 grams, with a denomination of 100,000 soums. The initial mintage will be 100 gold and 500 silver coins, but this may be increased depending on collector interest.
