Lieutenant Colonel Ilhom Idirov has been appointed acting head of the Traffic Safety Department of the Tashkent City Main Internal Affairs Directorate. No official announcement was made, but his name appears in a resolution of the Tashkent City Council of People's Deputies dated September 25 — in clauses assigning specific tasks to the department. The Traffic Safety Department confirmed the appointment to a Podrobno.uz correspondent.
Idirov previously headed the Traffic Safety Department of Kashkadarya region, and in July 2025 was appointed head of the Traffic Safety Department of the Syrdarya Regional Internal Affairs Directorate. His move to the capital post is seen as a continuation of personnel reshuffles in the road safety system.
The Council resolution is dedicated to the results of implementing the national program "Havfsiz va ravon yo'l" (Safe and Smooth Road) in the first half of 2026 and measures to ensure road safety. The document also defines the main tasks for the capital's Traffic Safety Department. The department is instructed to accelerate the installation and replacement of road signs, road markings, and the construction and reconstruction of traffic light facilities. It is also planned to continue digitalizing traffic management, including installing surveillance cameras at city entrances and intersections.
Another area is accident prevention. Together with the Preschool and School Education Department, the Traffic Safety Department must organize road safety classes in schools and kindergartens. In addition, the department is tasked with strengthening preventive work and, within a week, developing a targeted action plan to reduce fatalities in the capital's districts.
The resolution separately addresses the traffic situation in Mirzo-Ulugbek district. The Traffic Safety Department, together with local administrations, must consider proposals for organizing traffic on Khirmontepa, Mirzo-Ulugbek, and Sayram streets. Earlier, it became known that former Deputy Interior Minister Bekmurod Abdullaev, who was previously a defendant in a criminal case over embezzlement of budget funds, was appointed head of the Department for Coordination of Internal Affairs Bodies of Chilanzar district in Tashkent.
