Uzbekistan has seen a dramatic rise in its middle class, with the share of the population belonging to this group growing from 37% to over 72% between 2021 and 2025, according to a World Bank analysis.

In Tashkent, the share of residents in the upper-middle class reached 71.5%. Nationwide, the upper-middle class increased from 8% to 31%, while the lower-middle class grew from 29% to 41%. The capital's growth significantly outpaced other regions.

Experts attribute the expansion primarily to rising wages in the private sector. Additionally, Tashkent hosts 29% of all formal private-sector jobs requiring high qualifications.

While the data points to notable social progress, the gap between the capital and the regions remains wide. Analysts caution that sustaining this trend will depend on continued economic reforms and job creation beyond Tashkent.
