Significant leadership changes have taken place within the Presidential Administration of Uzbekistan. Obid Khakimov has been appointed Deputy Head of the Presidential Administration overseeing education reform. Concurrently, he will assume the role of Rector at "New Uzbekistan" University, as officially announced by presidential spokesperson Sherzod Asadov.
Prior to this new assignment, Khakimov had been serving as the President's Advisor on Economic Policy since October 2025. His previous experience also includes serving as Deputy Advisor on Economic Policy while concurrently heading the Center for Economic Research and Reforms (CERR), where he led numerous high-profile strategic analytical studies.
In his new role, Khakimov succeeds Ilkhom Sirozhev, who had held the office since February. Sirozhev has now been reassigned as Deputy Minister of Education and Science in charge of compliance and internal anti-corruption oversight. Meanwhile, the vacant post of Presidential Advisor on Economic Policy has been filled by Kamoliddin Mardonov, who formerly served as First Deputy Head of the Department for Legal Expertise and Comprehensive Analysis within the Presidential Administration.
These structural appointments align with recent comprehensive governance shifts across Uzbekistan's educational landscape. Under a recent presidential decree, the Ministry of Preschool and School Education and the Ministry of Higher Education, Science, and Innovation were officially consolidated into a unified Ministry of Education and Science.
