Archaeological researchers have uncovered significant historical remains during field surveys conducted in the mountainous and foothill areas of the Koshrabad district in the Samarkand region. Specialists reportedly found rock art, which is tentatively dated to the Mesolithic and Neolithic eras, alongside traces of a Bronze Age settlement. These findings are expected to provide deeper insights into how ancient populations adapted to the local terrain and maintained contacts with neighboring tribes.

Throughout October, researchers from the Yahyo Gulomov Samarkand Archaeological Institute surveyed remote areas within the district. On the walls and ceilings of stone overhangs located near the localities of Egrizharsay, Khodjasay (Badimin), Galajinsay, and Sumbulsay—all part of the Akchabsay makhalla—experts identified drawings created using natural ochre. Preliminary assessments suggest these depictions may belong to the Mesolithic and Neolithic periods.

In addition to the rock art, another critical discovery was made near the Pangat makhalla, where archaeologists located pottery fragments from the Bronze Age across three distinct sites. At one specific location, situated approximately 700 to 800 meters east of the village of Kumolokli, specialists conducted targeted test excavations measuring two by one meter. * *-

Beneath the topsoil, the archaeological team reportedly identified a cultural layer measuring roughly 60 centimeters in thickness, strongly indicating the historical presence of a Bronze Age settlement. Excavation activities yielded numerous fragments of ceramic items and various bone remains.

The newly discovered sites will reportedly require extended and systematic excavations to fully understand their context. Researchers plan to compare these artifacts with archaeological materials retrieved from other regions to reconstruct the historical processes of settlement and development in the Nurata mountain range.
