Law enforcement agencies in the Samarkand region have successfully dismantled a major drug trafficking operation involving foreign nationals. Operatives from the State Security Service's regional department, alongside customs and internal affairs personnel, intercepted a significant consignment of illicit substances intended for domestic distribution.

Authorities reported that a 55-year-old citizen from a Persian Gulf state attempted to smuggle over 20 kilograms of opium into the country using a Renault freight truck. The prohibited cargo was meticulously concealed within structural hidden compartments of the vehicle, as well as inside two heavy-duty batteries. During a subsequent search of the suspect's temporary residence in the Ishtikhan district, law enforcement officers uncovered an additional 20.239 kilograms of opium.

Preliminary investigative findings suggest that the foreign suspect allegedly acted in coordination with an accomplice from a neighboring republic, whose identity remains under verification by security services. Criminal proceedings have been initiated under relevant statutes concerning drug smuggling and illicit trafficking, while authorities continue comprehensive inquiries to expose the full criminal network.
