A severe traffic accident occurred in the Termez district of the Surkhandarya region, resulting in the death of a 16-year-old school student. The incident, which took place on October 9, has once again highlighted ongoing safety concerns regarding underage driving and parental oversight.
According to preliminary reports, a 10th-grade student allegedly took the wheel of a Cobalt passenger vehicle belonging to his mother. The teenager was reportedly driving at an excessively high speed before losing control of the automobile and crashing violently into a street lighting pole situated in the middle of the roadway.
The impact of the collision proved fatal for a classmate who was riding in the vehicle as a passenger; the peer died at the scene from severe injuries. Meanwhile, the teenage driver sustained critical injuries and was rushed to the intensive care unit, where medical personnel are fighting for his life.
Law enforcement authorities have initiated a criminal investigation into the circumstances surrounding the crash. This tragic event follows another recent high-profile case in Tashkent, where a court sentenced a 16-year-old school student who fatally struck a traffic police inspector.
