Authorities in the Kibray district of the Tashkent region have reportedly apprehended the head of the state-owned Water Supply Service institution during an alleged bribery operation. According to the Department for Combating Economic Crimes under the General Prosecutor's Office, the official was caught red-handed following a sting operation.
Investigations indicate that the official, identified as U.Yu., allegedly targeted a local resident named J.B., whose residential property in the Goliblar mahalla had been constructed with all necessary official permits. However, the official purportedly claimed that the location was too close to a canal and threatened to initiate legal action against the homeowner.
It is claimed that the official demanded 16,000 US dollars in exchange for providing favorable testimony in court regarding the elimination of alleged violations and for dropping the lawsuit altogether. U.Yu. was subsequently caught in his office while supposedly accepting an initial installment of 5,000 dollars.
Law enforcement agencies have initiated a criminal case under Article 210 of the Criminal Code concerning the taking of bribes. Comprehensive investigative activities are currently underway to uncover the full scope of the alleged illicit enterprise.
