Law enforcement agencies in the Fergana region have apprehended a local resident allegedly involved in extensive violations of legislation governing the circulation of crypto assets. According to reports from the authorities, the individual carried out unauthorized financial operations totaling an estimated 2.5 trillion sums. Authorities noted that the suspect had a prior criminal record for fraud and bribery, raising serious questions about ongoing financial compliance and enforcement gaps in the region.
The Internal Affairs Directorate of the Fergana region reported that the targeted operational raid was conducted on July 6 by officers from the regional department combating cybercrime. Following the operation, a criminal case was officially initiated regarding the violation of legal regulations concerning crypto asset turnover, as investigators work to uncover the full scope of the illicit transactions.
During preliminary questioning, the suspect purportedly claimed that he had been engaged in trading activities since 2023 and merely utilized various crypto wallets to fund his brokerage account. While he allegedly expressed regret over his actions, local investigators continue their procedural actions to verify his statements and trace the flow of funds.
This incident highlights ongoing challenges within the digital financial sector, following a similar recent crackdown in the capital. Previously, law enforcement officers in Tashkent halted illegal digital currency operations involving a 17-year-old resident of the Yunusabad district, who reportedly conducted unauthorized crypto asset transactions valued at $578,000, roughly equivalent to 6.9 billion sums.
