The leadership of Uzbekistan has reviewed ambitious urban development projects aimed at modernizing the capital's residential areas and improving public infrastructure. A key presentation focused on the comprehensive renovation of four neighborhoods in the Yashnabad district—Vatandosh, Mohinur, Al-Bukhari, and Tong—covering a total area of 75 hectares and housing over 18,000 residents.
The proposed redevelopment relies heavily on the '15-minute neighborhood' framework. Under this concept, essential retail outlets, everyday services, educational facilities, healthcare institutions, and recreational spaces will be situated within convenient walking distance for all local inhabitants, significantly reducing reliance on vehicular transport.
The master plan outlines extensive greening initiatives, the creation of a three-kilometer promenade, and the installation of modern playgrounds and multi-purpose sports facilities. Furthermore, authorities intend to overhaul the facades and utility networks of 76 apartment buildings, implement traffic-calming measures by moving parking outside courtyards, and establish dedicated bike lanes and expanded waste management stations.
Looking forward, the municipal strategy aims to scale this comprehensive modernization model to 100 neighborhoods by 2027 and up to 400 neighborhoods by 2030. This overarching transformation will encompass complete infrastructure overhauls—including heating, water supply, and electricity grids—while concurrently generating an estimated 130,000 new jobs and addressing growing shortages in school capacities across the capital.
