Demographic indicators in Uzbekistan are showing a noticeable downward trend following a period of unprecedented growth. Specifically, the country recorded 962,000 births in 2023, marking the highest figure since 1991. However, the number of newborns has subsequently decreased for two consecutive years, dropping to 879,600 in 2025. This represents a decrease of 82,400, or approximately 8.6 percent, compared to the peak levels seen in 2023.

According to official data released by the National Statistics Committee, 926,400 children were born nationwide in 2024. The contraction continued into 2025, with the figure falling by an additional 46,800, or nearly 5.1 percent. Analysts note that these fluctuations reflect shifting socio-economic factors, evolving family planning practices, and broader demographic adjustments within the population.

Long-term statistical tracking indicates that birth rates in the country have experienced cyclical shifts over past decades. For instance, while 723,400 children were born in 1991, the figure saw a sharp decline around the turn of the century, dropping to 527,600 in 2000. A gradual recovery followed, pushing the number of births to 734,100 by 2015 and reaching 841,800 by 2020.

Historical data provided by the committee underscores the undulating nature of the nation's demographic landscape. Records show that 678,000 births were registered in 1995, 533,500 in 2005, and 634,800 in 2010. Such trends necessitate ongoing adjustments in national planning for educational institutions, healthcare infrastructure, and social welfare systems.
