Uzbekistan has announced ambitious plans to plant 140 million tree saplings across the country during the autumn season of the nationwide 'Yashil Makon' (Green Space) project. The announcement was made by the Agency for the Increase of Forest and Green Areas and Combating Desertification, outlining a series of strategic measures aimed at boosting ecological standards.
Under the newly implemented operational framework, authorities are introducing the international '3-30-300' standard. Recognizing that autumn and winter moisture levels significantly improve the survival rate of newly planted trees, planting schedules have been tailored to local climatic conditions. Operations will commence on November 1 in Karakalpakstan and the Khorezm region, followed by Bukhara and Navoi on November 5, central regions and Tashkent on November 10, and southern provinces on November 20.
To expand urban green spaces, authorities intend to establish 257 new 'green parks' and public recreational areas, with projections scaling up to 1,023 parks by 2030. Furthermore, each district and city is mandated to create shaded walking alleys stretching at least 10 kilometers, complete with advanced water-saving irrigation infrastructure to mitigate environmental challenges.
To ensure proper maintenance, approximately 4,200 forestry mentors have been assigned to local communities. Additionally, a new 'Green Lot' system is slated to launch, allowing citizens and entrepreneurs to lease designated land plots strictly for establishing green parks without any commercial construction rights.
