The Uzbek capital has hosted an international conference dedicated to World Cotton Day, convening officials from the UN Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO), the World Trade Organization, and the International Cotton Advisory Committee (ICAC), along with delegates from over thirty countries. This marks the first time such a high-profile event has been held in the Central Asian region.

During the conference, Minister of Agriculture Ibrohim Abdurahmonov allegedly explained the recent performance metrics in the sector through a newly introduced "5D" framework and a set of rules. The official purportedly emphasized that due to rapid climate shifts, agricultural practices must be diversified, simplified, and made more flexible for local farmers.

Participants also reviewed the background of the lifting of international boycotts against local cotton following previous claims by the International Organization of Labour regarding forced labor eradication. While local authorities highlighted quantitative production gains, international experts noted that the ultimate priority for the industry must be the enhancement of sustainable economic value rather than mere output expansion.
