Uzbekistan is initiating comprehensive measures to significantly expand its domestic aquaculture sector, aiming to increase annual fish production to one million tons. To achieve this objective, authorities intend to establish modern fish farms across various regions, improve processing infrastructure, and construct advanced storage facilities.

President Shavkat Mirziyoyev has reviewed new project proposals centered on the modernization of the fishing industry. Among the key initiatives is a pilot project in the Balykchi district, which proposes utilizing amelioration wells for commercial fish farming operations.

Specialized integrated complexes are set to be established around 24 local wells. These facilities will manage the entire operational cycle, ranging from fry cultivation and feed preparation to the processing, cold storage, and commercial distribution of fish products.

Each complex will span an area of 0.5 hectares, with projections indicating an annual output of at least 30 tons of trout per site alongside the creation of ten jobs. Officials intend to replicate this operational model in other regions following a successful initial rollout.

As part of this broader strategy, state authorities will inspect over 4,000 amelioration wells nationwide by March 1, 2027. Suitable sites will subsequently be transferred to private entrepreneurs under public-private partnership frameworks.
