Agricultural authorities in Uzbekistan have announced the successful completion of a major portion of the cotton harvesting campaign, with total yields reportedly reaching 4.63 million tonnes. According to official figures released by the Ministry of Agriculture, this output surpasses the initial government target, fulfilling the plan by an estimated 103 percent.
Ministry representatives claim that a significant portion of the harvest was gathered using mechanized methods rather than manual labor. The deployment of nearly 3,000 modern cotton-picking machines allegedly accounted for 3.51 million tonnes of the total volume. The nationwide mechanization rate averaged 76 percent, while certain regions supposedly reached an impressive 98.5 percent efficiency in machine utilization.
Regional breakdowns indicate that the Jizzakh region led the mechanization push with 98.5 percent of its crop gathered by machinery. Meanwhile, the Syrdarya and Tashkent regions recorded mechanization rates of 94.2 percent and 81.2 percent, respectively, while late harvesting efforts continue in remaining fields.
Officials maintain that these outcomes are the direct result of newly introduced agrotechnologies and scientific recommendations implemented across various regions. However, independent observers remain skeptical regarding the actual long-term sustainability of such high yields amidst persistent economic and infrastructural challenges facing the agricultural sector.
