During his working trip to Bukhara, President of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev visited the historical Koshmadrasa architectural ensemble, where ongoing preservation efforts for the 16th-century monument are actively underway. The head of state was briefed on detailed plans for further restoration work and proposals to upgrade visitor facilities and overall tourism infrastructure.

The complex comprises two prominent madrasas facing each other, representing a significant achievement of medieval Islamic architecture. The larger structure, the Abdullah Khan Madrasah, was constructed between 1588 and 1590 under the patronage of Bukhara Khanate ruler Abdullah Khan II. The second structure, the Modarikhan Madrasah, was erected earlier in 1566–1567 and was dedicated to the ruler's mother.

Historically, Koshmadrasa served as a major educational and intellectual hub across Transoxiana. Scholars and students gathered here not only for religious studies, but also to explore mathematics, medicine, philosophy, logic, Arabic language, and literature. The complex is distinguished by its unconventional urban layout and sophisticated engineering, featuring striking blue ceramic mosaics and glazed decorative elements at its main entrance.

Between 2023 and 2024, the complex underwent partial restoration financed by an allocation of 6 billion soms. Currently, the historical landmark welcomes approximately one million visitors annually. The President instructed officials to ensure the uninterrupted preservation of the heritage site while concurrently expanding and improving comfort levels for all incoming travelers.
