President Shavkat Mirziyoyev of Uzbekistan congratulated medical and pharmaceutical workers on their professional holiday, highlighting sweeping reforms within the national healthcare system, substantial financial growth, and a notable increase in public life expectancy. The country's leader reported that funding for the medical sector has expanded sevenfold over recent years, projected to reach 49 trillion soms by 2026, which allegedly facilitates the comprehensive modernization of healthcare infrastructure and upgrades diagnostic capabilities across all administrative regions.

Key Takeaways: The official statement highlighted a sevenfold increase in healthcare funding, the targeted nationwide rollout of state medical insurance by late 2026, and a strategic ambition to raise the average national life expectancy to 78 years.

According to the official announcement, continuous efforts are being directed toward reinforcing the material and technical base of medical facilities, introducing advanced clinical methods, and refining primary healthcare services. Authorities have reportedly established specialized national frameworks to combat heart attacks and strokes, ensure early detection of oncological and hematological diseases, and expand palliative care networks. Furthermore, digitization efforts are progressing rapidly, with electronic medical records for over 38 million individuals created through the DMED information system, alongside operational platforms such as the 'Electronic Polyclinic', 'Electronic Hospital', and 'Electronic Prescription'. *-

The president also drew attention to upcoming structural changes, noting plans to finalize the implementation of state medical insurance mechanisms across every region by the end of 2026 to guarantee universal healthcare coverage. Medical education is undergoing significant revision as well; admission quotas to medical universities have risen by 4.5 times since 2017, with foreign student enrollment surpassing 15,000. Starting next year, mandatory state registration for medical and pharmaceutical personnel will be introduced in alignment with international standards, while specialized training will fully transition to residency programs by the 2027–2028 academic year.

The private healthcare sector has experienced remarkable expansion over the past decade, with private clinics growing from 3,500 to over 9,000, while authorized specialized services surged from 50 to 213 categories. Concurrently, the domestic pharmaceutical industry manufactures upwards of 6,800 types of medication, exporting to more than 50 nations. Concluding his address, Mirziyoyev emphasized that average life expectancy has risen from 73.8 to 75.4 years, setting a future benchmark of 78 years through enhanced disease prevention and early diagnosis initiatives.
