US President Donald Trump has stated the possibility of reaching an agreement with Cuba, noting that Havana itself is seeking contact with Washington due to a protracted economic crisis. However, the American leader avoided answering a question about forcibly changing the ruling regime on the island.

Speaking to reporters at the White House, Trump directly said that the Cuban side is reaching out due to the dire situation in the country. "Cuba is calling us. They need help," he emphasized, adding that the US administration is ready to meet them.

At the same time, the White House chief preferred to maintain diplomatic intrigue and did not give a clear answer on whether a change in Havana's political course is a key condition for Washington.

Trump also recalled that the Cuban economy fell into a critical situation after Washington blocked supply channels to the island. In particular, tough US pressure on Caracas led to a sharp reduction in Venezuelan oil supplies, triggering a deep energy crisis in Cuba.

Against this backdrop, Trump's statements about "support" appear as an offer of a deal exclusively on the White House's terms. Especially since, according to sources from Politico, in recent weeks the US administration has actively discussed imposing new harsh economic restrictions on Havana if no compromise is reached.
