Manchester City officially announced on May 22 that head coach Pep Guardiola will leave his position this summer. The Spanish tactician has been in charge since July 2016, leading the club to 20 major trophies.

Guardiola did not specify a single reason for his departure: "Don't ask me about the reasons. There is no specific reason, but I feel inside: my time has come. Nothing lasts forever." He thanked players, staff, and fans for their support.

After leaving the head coach role, Guardiola will remain within the City Football Group as a global ambassador. He will advise clubs in the group on technical matters and participate in special projects and partnerships.

Club chairman Khaldoon Al Mubarak praised Guardiola's approach, saying it allowed him to "always challenge conventional wisdom." He added: "Over the last 10 years, he has changed not only Manchester City but the entire game for the better."

Guardiola's achievements include six Premier League titles, one UEFA Champions League, three FA Cups, and five EFL Cups. In the 2017/18 season, City set a Premier League record with 100 points.

In 2022/23, Manchester City completed a treble, winning the Champions League, Premier League, and FA Cup. The following season, they became the first club in English football history to win four consecutive top-flight titles.

Guardiola's final game in charge will be on Sunday against Aston Villa, his 593rd match for the club. Italian coach Enzo Maresca is expected to replace him.

Guardiola's departure also impacts Uzbekistan national team defender Abdukodir Khusanov, who plays for Manchester City. In January 2026, Guardiola called him "a great signing for the club for years to come." Khusanov will now continue under a new head coach.
