Chinese authorities are integrating artificial intelligence into the video surveillance network to more quickly detect suspicious behavior and potential threats.
According to the Financial Times, China currently has one of the world's largest monitoring systems. The government now plans to upgrade software that can analyze footage in real time.
These technologies allow searching video fragments by text query, recognizing unusual actions, and helping police respond faster to incidents. Major Chinese companies such as Hikvision and Huawei are involved in developing and supplying the equipment.
This effectively marks a shift toward a more "predictive" policing model, where algorithms are supposed to identify potential risks in advance. However, human rights activists warn that such systems could strengthen control over citizens and make surveillance even more extensive.
Earlier, Pavel Durov accused France of attempting to legitimize digital surveillance.
