Russia launched a large-scale air attack on Ukrainian cities overnight on June 2. According to President Volodymyr Zelenskyy, a total of 656 strike drones and 73 missiles of various types, including ballistic and cruise missiles, were fired.

The main strike hit the capital Kyiv. Dozens of residential buildings and civilian infrastructure were damaged. Four people were killed, over 60 injured, and 38 hospitalized.

In Dnipro, part of a four-story apartment building was destroyed. The attack killed nine people, including one child, and wounded 35. Six people are missing, and search efforts are ongoing.

Among the victims was Deputy Chief of the Fire and Rescue Squad, Major Anton Yarmolenko, who was responding to a call at the time of the strike.

The Kharkiv, Kyiv, Mykolaiv, Zaporizhzhia, Poltava, Sumy, Chernihiv, and Khmelnytskyi regions also came under attack. In Kharkiv, energy infrastructure was damaged. Over 500 rescuers are working in the affected areas.

Interior Minister Ihor Klymenko said that in the capital, rescuers worked through the night in almost all districts — 29 locations. Most fires have been extinguished, but work continues at six active sites in five districts of Kyiv. The total number of injured exceeds 100.

Zelenskyy stated: “The massive attack and Russia’s absolutely open statement: if Ukraine is not protected from ballistic and other missile strikes, these attacks will continue. To end the war, Europe must have its own anti-ballistic system. Also, US assistance in supplying missiles for Patriot systems is crucial. We hope our partners will support us and respond effectively to today’s strike.”
