The Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC) has reported over 1,500 confirmed Ebola cases, with 473 deaths recorded so far. The fatality rate now stands at nearly one-third of all cases.
Currently, 628 patients are being treated in hospitals and isolation centers, while 11,360 individuals who had contact with infected persons remain under medical observation.
The World Health Organization (WHO) previously stated that the outbreak is caused by the Bundibugyo virus and is spreading rapidly. The main hotspots are located in the provinces of Ituri, North Kivu, and South Kivu.
WHO assesses the risk of spread within the country as very high but does not recommend imposing travel or trade restrictions with the DRC or Uganda.
Earlier, a patient with Ebola-like symptoms was hospitalized in Israel. Authorities reminded that the virus is not transmitted through the air.
