EU ministers are expected to formally approve a package of reforms granting additional rights to air travelers on Monday. The reforms, already greenlighted by the European Parliament, will apply to all departures from airports in the bloc and to arrivals operated by EU-based airlines.
Rules on passenger compensation for delayed or canceled flights remain largely unchanged, with passengers still entitled to refunds if a flight is at least three hours late and the airline is at fault. Airlines will not be held responsible for incidents involving unruly passengers, weather conditions, natural disasters, or strikes by airport staff.
However, the reforms aim to make compensation claims easier and clarify passenger rights in case of travel disruptions. The new rules are set to come into force in mid-2027.
