The goal of Uzbekistan national team captain Eldor Shomurodov has finished second in the voting for the best goal of the 2026 FIFA World Cup, according to the International Football Federation (FIFA).
The goal by Cape Verde player Sidney Lopes Cabral against Argentina was named the most beautiful goal of the tournament in the Round of 16.
Lopes' goal equalized the score at 2-2 in extra time in Cape Verde's match against Argentina, which became the tournament's sensation. The player dribbled past opponent midfielder Alexis Mac Allister and from the left edge of the penalty area struck the ball into the far top corner of the goal guarded by Emiliano Martínez.
"When I dribbled past my opponent, I saw an open space and thought, 'Let me try to shoot.' I can shoot well with both feet. I saw the space and aimed for the top corner, I struck the ball very well," said Cabral.
It is worth recalling that Eldor Shomurodov previously won the FIFA vote for the best goal of the group stage of the 2026 World Cup. His precise lob shot from a sharp angle in the match against the Democratic Republic of Congo received 36% of the votes.
