Kazakhstan's General Prosecutor's Office has initiated an investigation into possible connections between former officials and the late American financier Jeffrey Epstein. Prosecutor General Berik Asilov announced this to journalists.
On February 25, Majilis deputy Ashat Rakhimzhanov requested the prosecutor's office to examine information about potential links between former high-ranking officials and Epstein, as well as media reports on his visits to Kazakhstan. According to Rakhimzhanov, former Prime Minister Karim Massimov is "mentioned in the records at least 8 times," indicating a personal acquaintance. The deputy also noted that the files mention joint vacations between Epstein and former National Bank chairman Kairat Kelimbetov.
Prosecutor General Asilov stated: "The deputy has just made the request, but this issue is already being discussed worldwide. Therefore, we, as law enforcement agencies, are investigating these facts." He confirmed that a preliminary investigation has been launched, focusing on Epstein's visits to Kazakhstan and possible meetings with Kelimbetov.
