Napoli midfielder Scott McTominay will undergo a surgical procedure to treat an irregular heartbeat, the Serie A club announced on Tuesday. The club said the operation is necessary due to a minor, benign arrhythmia.

Napoli added that McTominay will be sidelined until after the season's first international break, meaning he won't play again until October. The 29-year-old Scottish international left the pitch during the second half of Napoli's 2-1 loss to Como on Sunday.

The procedure, known as pulsed field ablation (PFA), is a minimally invasive technique used to treat heart arrhythmias. The club's statement confirmed that McTominay will undergo the operation in the coming days.

McTominay was named Serie A MVP when he helped Napoli win the title in 2025. He also played for Scotland at this year's World Cup and was among the contenders for the last Ballon d'Or award.

A product of Manchester United's youth system, which he joined during Alex Ferguson's tenure as manager, McTominay has earned 73 caps for Scotland, scoring 15 goals. His move to Napoli in 2024 came after seven seasons in the United first team.

The news comes as a blow to Napoli, who are currently competing at the top of Serie A. McTominay has been a key figure in the squad since his arrival, and his absence will be felt in the coming weeks.
