Saudi Arabia's air defense forces intercepted and destroyed an unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) that was flying toward the holy city of Mecca, according to Turki al-Malki, spokesman for the Coalition for the Restoration of Legitimacy in Yemen. The drone was reportedly intercepted south of the city before it could enter restricted airspace.

Uzbekistan's Ministry of Foreign Affairs issued an official statement strongly condemning the attempted attack using a drone directed at the holy city of Mecca in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia. The ministry expressed full solidarity with Saudi Arabia.

"We consider any actions that pose a threat to holy sites, civilians, and civilian infrastructure to be unacceptable. We call on all parties to exercise maximum restraint, strictly comply with international law, and respect the sovereignty, independence, and territorial integrity of states," the MFA statement read.

The ministry emphasized its support for efforts aimed at reducing tensions, preventing further escalation of the conflict, and ensuring peace, security, and stability in the region.

The incident highlights the persistent security risks in the Middle East, where attempts to target Saudi territory—particularly in the direction of the holy cities—continue to raise concerns. While the international community repeatedly calls for de-escalation, a durable reduction in tensions has yet to materialize.
