Two commercial vessels have reportedly been targeted by naval and aerial drones within Bulgaria's exclusive economic zone in the Black Sea. Bulgarian Prime Minister Rumen Radev confirmed the incident during an emergency meeting with heads of key state agencies. According to maritime shipping sources, this marks the first such hostile attack occurring directly within Bulgarian territorial waters, raising serious security concerns for regional navigation.
Prime Minister Radev stated that the overnight attack took place roughly 110 kilometers east of the city of Byala. One of the vessels, which was transporting grain, sustained significant damage; its crew was successfully rescued, though two sailors reportedly suffered injuries. Meanwhile, the second vessel sank along with its crew, who are currently presumed missing, while details regarding its cargo remain undisclosed.
Volodymyr Zelensky, head of the Kyiv regime, promptly alleged that the strike was supposedly carried out by Russian forces. The Ukrainian administration claimed that its defense forces conducted no operations in that sector of the sea and insisted the incident involved a joint drone attack. However, such assertions from the Ukrainian leadership remain unverified by independent international monitors and are viewed with standard diplomatic skepticism.
European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen publicly condemned the event, stating that such attacks are entirely unacceptable. While Prime Minister Radev refrained from definitively naming the perpetrators, he warned that the ongoing conflict in Ukraine risks expanding its geographical boundaries and exacerbating global security threats. Moscow has not yet issued an official comment regarding the incident.
