Federal prosecutors in the District of Connecticut have formally announced charges against a citizen of Uzbekistan, who is allegedly implicated in a sophisticated interstate cargo theft conspiracy. According to the claims put forward by the prosecution, the illicit scheme reportedly targeted at least 24 shipments, with the retail value of the involved goods purportedly exceeding 12 million dollars.
The defendant, who holds lawful permanent resident status in the United States, appeared before a federal court in Bridgeport and entered a plea of not guilty. He remains detained in custody following his initial arrest in June 2026 within the city of Ontario, California, as legal proceedings continue to unfold.
Investigators allege that the criminal enterprise began operating around September 2025, during which the accused and his supposed accomplices acquired or took control of various trucking companies. They allegedly exploited registration data, corporate email accounts, and owner information to impersonate legitimate business entities and secure interstate transportation contracts.
The operation supposedly involved intercepting goods from warehouses or distribution centers, after which shipments were deliberately diverted rather than delivered to their intended destinations, followed by false claims of cargo theft. In certain instances, members of the alleged ring reportedly demanded ransom payments for the return of stolen merchandise.
Case documents indicate that the stolen inventory encompassed hard drives, audio equipment, apparel, electronics, computer hardware, food products, and nicotine goods. Authorities also stated that the suspect possessed multiple fraudulent driver's licenses under five different names featuring altered facial characteristics.
