The Saudi-led coalition announced that it successfully intercepted and destroyed multiple drones and ballistic missiles launched toward the capital, Riyadh, and southern regions of the kingdom. Coalition spokesman Major-General Turki al-Maliki stated that air defense forces neutralized a ballistic missile targeting the capital, along with a drone in the Riyadh region and a cruise missile aimed at Khamis Mushait, as explosions echoed across the Saudi capital.
These attacks coincide with the disputed resumption of operations at two terminals of King Khalid International Airport in Riyadh following deadly incidents earlier in the month. Houthi military spokesman Yahya Saree claimed that the airport supposedly remains an "unsafe" and legitimate "military target" for the Iran-backed movement. Saree alleged that the Saudi regime will bear full responsibility for any civilian or commercial operations conducted at the facility.
Furthermore, Saudi civil defense authorities reported responding to falling debris in the Mecca and Medina regions following the interception of two additional missiles, though the Houthis dismissed allegations of targeting Islam's holiest sites as a fabrication. Meanwhile, fierce ground fighting in Yemen's strategic city of Taiz has prompted the United Nations to warn that time is critically running out for hundreds of thousands of trapped civilians facing a deepening humanitarian disaster.
