At least 21 people have reportedly been killed and over 40 others sustained various injuries following a devastating drone strike in the city of Nyala, located in Sudan's volatile Darfur region. The Agence France-Presse (AFP) news agency disseminated the casualty figures, citing local medical personnel and eyewitness accounts from the scene.

According to reports from residents, the aerial bombardment occurred on Monday evening at a crowded marketplace situated in the northern sector of the city. The targeted urban center serves as the de facto capital for the paramilitary Rapid Support Forces (RSF), with witnesses noting that armed fighters frequently frequented the busy market area.

A medical professional at Nyala Hospital confirmed the grim toll on Tuesday, stating that scores of wounded individuals continue to receive emergency medical care. The Sudanese military, which has been locked in a bitter armed conflict with the RSF since April 2023, allegedly conducts regular airstrikes against Nyala, where the paramilitary faction has established a rival administration challenging the internationally recognized authorities in Khartoum.

The ongoing hostilities continue to exacerbate the severe humanitarian crisis unfolding across Sudan, plunging the civilian population into profound danger. International observers remain deeply concerned over the persistent disregard for civilian safety amidst the intensifying military campaigns.
