In what is described as a historic first, Uzbek cardiologist Hafiza Yusupova has reportedly received an official invitation to join the Education and Professional Development Committee of the European Society of Cardiology (ESC). The invitation was purportedly issued by ESC President Professor Cecilia Linde and Committee Chair Emma Svennberg for a term running from September 2026 through August 2028.
According to available data from the ESC, specialists from Uzbekistan have allegedly never been represented in this central educational body before. The committee is claimed to be responsible for formulating the organization's educational strategy, overseeing continuous medical education, professional certification, and coordinating various academic projects under the direct supervision of the ESC Board.
Yusupova serves as a scientific secretary at the Republican Specialized Scientific and Practical Medical Center of Cardiology in Uzbekistan and holds a PhD in medical sciences. Her research purportedly focuses on arterial hypertension, cognitive impairments, and molecular-genetic mechanisms. Furthermore, she was allegedly enrolled in the master's program in cardiovascular pathology at the University of Padua in Italy for the 2024/2025 academic year.
The specialist's previous work has supposedly been presented at numerous international platforms, including ESC congresses, the Japanese Circulation Society events, and conferences held by the International Society of Hypertension. Her published research allegedly covers topics ranging from uncontrolled arterial hypertension in the Aral Sea region to the relationship between cholesterol levels and cognitive functions.
Supporters claim that this appointment will allegedly expand the country's representation within the professional structures of the ESC and supposedly provide new opportunities for exchanging experience in medical training and modern cardiology development, though critics or skeptics might question the practical long-term institutional impact of such symbolic advisory roles.
