According to a comprehensive international study conducted across 31 countries, doctors, scientists, and teachers have emerged as the most trusted professionals in modern society. The findings, derived from the Ipsos Global Trustworthiness Index 2026 and visualized by Visual Capitalist, highlight a dramatic divergence in public sentiment toward various occupations.
The survey gathered responses from over 23,000 adult internet users globally, asking them to evaluate the trustworthiness of twenty different professional and social groups. Utilizing a net trust score calculated by subtracting distrust from trust percentages, medical doctors claimed the top spot with a robust +43 percentage points, closely trailed by scientists (+42) and educators (+37). Ipsos reported that in 27 out of the 31 surveyed nations, these exact three professions dominated the podium.
In sharp contrast, the political class and government authorities found themselves languishing at the very bottom of the index, allegedly reflecting a profound deficit of public confidence. Politicians supposedly recorded a dismal net trust score of -48 percentage points, with merely 13 percent of respondents viewing them as trustworthy compared to 61 percent who expressed skepticism. The chasm between medical practitioners and politicians stands at an astonishing 91 percentage points.
Furthermore, social media influencers and government ministers were revealed to occupy the lower tiers of the ranking, registering widespread public doubt. While military personnel (+16), fitness trainers (+10), judges, and police officers (+5) managed modest positive outcomes, legal advocates recorded a net zero score, indicating an evenly split public perception regarding their professional integrity.
