Thousands of demonstrators flooded the streets of India's capital, New Delhi, demanding the immediate resignation of the chief election commissioner over controversial revisions to voter lists. Opposition factions assert that the sweeping changes are purportedly designed to advantage Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s ruling party.

The Sunday demonstration was spearheaded by Indian National Congress leader Rahul Gandhi, marking the culmination of over a month of unrest challenging electoral roll revisions and the conduct of Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar. Opposition critics allege that the contentious exercise, which reportedly stripped more than 130 million names from registry databases, disproportionately targeted Muslims and other minority communities unlikely to support the ruling Hindu nationalist agenda.

The Election Commission has vehemently denied allegations of partisanship, asserting that individuals whose names were mistakenly omitted retain the opportunity to re-register. Meanwhile, officials aligned with the Modi administration have dismissed the opposition-led rallies as a calculated conspiracy aimed at undermining democratic stability and plunging the nation into anarchy.

Security forces significantly ramped up deployment across central New Delhi, positioning hundreds of riot police and barricades ahead of the march. Analysts note that this escalating political confrontation represents the most severe domestic crisis faced by the Indian regime since taking power in 2014, exposing deep societal fractures over the management of democratic institutions.
