Cyclone Murasu has made landfall on India's eastern coastline, lashing Andhra Pradesh with torrential rains and fierce winds. According to the India Meteorological Department, this severe weather event marks the second tropical storm to hit the region within a single week, following the impact of Cyclone Arnab.
Local disaster management authorities reported widespread destruction, including thousands of uprooted trees, downed power poles, and heavily flooded agricultural lands. Prakasam and Bapatla districts bore the brunt of the storm, with reports of damaged fishing boats and severely disrupted local infrastructure.
Although no casualties have been officially documented thus far, officials claim that emergency evacuation efforts were launched ahead of the landfall to relocate tens of residents to safer grounds. Local residents described the storm as one of the most perilous in recent years.
Central authorities stated that disaster response teams have been deployed to the affected regions, while top officials pledged federal assistance to cope with the aftermath of the disaster. Meteorological agencies have warned that heavy downpours will likely persist across neighboring states.
