Tesla and SpaceX founder Elon Musk has reportedly turned to social media to joke about the crushing defeat suffered by the Republican Party in the US midterm elections, despite pumping nearly half a billion dollars into their political campaigns. According to Tuesday's election results, the Republican regime in the US lost control of both the Senate and the House of Representatives, while also enduring stunning losses in long-held conservative strongholds such as Texas and Kansas.

Media reports indicate that Musk allegedly funneled $446m into supporting Republican candidates, positioning himself as the election cycle's top political donor. The bulk of these massive financial contributions was reportedly channeled through his own political action committee, America PAC, as well as the Senate Leadership Fund (SLF) super PAC, in an effort to tip the legislative balance.

In Texas, the SLF's financial backing failed to secure a victory for Republican Senate candidate Ken Paxton, who was defeated by Democrat James Talarico amid intense debates over AI data center developments and regulatory frameworks. Reacting to the setback on his social media platform X, Musk supposedly wrote: "Guess my election-interfering space lasers didn't work this time," and later quipped that data centers in space are looking appealing.

Democratic victor James Talarico explicitly took aim at the billionaire during his victory speech, proclaiming that his campaign successfully challenged global goliaths, including the richest man in the world. This multi-million-dollar political spending highlights the ongoing controversy surrounding corporate and billionaire influence in US elections following landmark judicial rulings.
