️ After weeks of uncertainty, African football's governing body, the Confederation of African Football (CAF), has announced the postponement of the Women's Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON), which was originally scheduled to begin in Morocco in mid-March. The tournament has now been moved to the summer months.

️ In a statement released on its website on Thursday, CAF stated, "After discussions between CAF and its partners, FIFA and other stakeholders, CAF decided to reschedule the dates of the TotalEnergies CAF WAFCON 2026, to 25 July – 16 August 2026 to ensure the success of this important women's competition." The organization did not provide a specific reason for the move, referring only to "certain unforeseen circumstances."

️ The statement attempted to strike a positive note, adding, "Preparations for the TotalEnergies CAF WAFCON 2026 are underway and all the parties are confident that it will be very successful." However, this announcement comes almost three weeks after CAF President Patrice Motsepe had ruled out any changes to the schedule, as the tournament also serves as a qualifying event for the 2027 Women's World Cup in Brazil.

️ Meanwhile, rumors had persisted for weeks that host nation Morocco was seeking to back out of its commitment to stage the tournament, with South Africa's deputy minister of sport at one point suggesting her country would step in as a replacement, a claim later denied by South Africa's sports minister. As of now, Morocco is still slated to host the event, albeit a few months later than planned. This will mark the third consecutive time Morocco has hosted the WAFCON.
