At least 56 civilians have been killed in Afghanistan since the escalation of armed conflict with Pakistan, beginning on February 26, 2026, with an additional 129 people injured, according to reports from Podrobno.uz.

Data from the United Nations Assistance Mission in Afghanistan (UNAMA) indicates that more than half of all casualties and injured (55%) are women and children caught in combat zones along the border line. The report highlights the critical humanitarian situation that has developed in border areas over the past week of active clashes.

The escalation occurred against a backdrop of deteriorating relations between the neighbors: Pakistan accuses Afghanistan of harboring militants from armed groups, including Pakistani Taliban, who use Afghan territory for attacks. Kabul denies these accusations.

Uzbekistan has expressed deep concern over the sharp deterioration of the situation. Official Tashkent has called on the parties to an immediate ceasefire, exercise maximum restraint, and prevent further escalation that could have catastrophic consequences for the entire region.
