In Uzbekistan, a comprehensive revision of curricula for preschools and schools has begun. This reform is part of the major education project SmartEd, funded by the Islamic Development Bank, Arab Coordination Group, and Global Partnership for Education. Partners include the Ministry of Preschool and School Education, UNICEF, and Cambridge University Press.
Acting Director of the Republican Education Center Dilshoda Norboyeva stated that the reform focuses on competency-based education, gender equality, inclusivity, climate change, and digital literacy. UNICEF Representative Regina Castillo emphasized its aim to develop 21st-century skills.
The curriculum revision process covers all education levels, starting from preschool. Each subject group is supported by international experts, a practice never before implemented for all subjects. Under the project, online and offline seminars have commenced, including a two-day seminar for subject leaders conducted by Cambridge experts.
Upon implementation, the project is expected to annually benefit 8.8 million children, including those with special needs.
