President Shavkat Mirziyoyev of Uzbekistan reviewed a presentation on proposals to develop urbanization processes and increase green areas in Tashkent.
In recent years, the capital's economy and agglomeration have been actively developing: the city's permanent population has exceeded 3.1 million, and by 2045, it is projected to more than double. In this regard, special attention is being paid to the development of housing stock, transport and engineering infrastructure, as well as the social sphere.
Improving the urban environment has been identified as a priority. Plans include tripling the area of green zones in Tashkent and adjacent territories to 25,000 hectares and increasing green space per capita from 3 to 6 square meters.
A total of 85 project proposals were presented, covering an area of 2,679 hectares. During their review, projects were assessed based on a unified urban planning approach, considering mandatory creation of green zones on at least 30% of the territory, renovation of outdated areas, and avoidance of spot development on small land plots.
Following discussions, it was proposed to approve 18 projects for implementation, revise 12 with parameter changes, and subject 54 projects to full conceptual reconsideration.
Separately, plans to expand the "Yangi Avlod" special industrial zone in Yangihayot district were reviewed. The need for phased relocation of large industrial enterprises from the central part of the capital and placement of environmentally safe, high-value-added productions was emphasized.
The implementation of approved projects is expected to generate an additional $1.5 billion in gross regional product annually, provide budget revenues of 3.5 trillion soums, and create about 260,000 jobs.
Additionally, the creation of nine new public parks with a total area of 134 hectares was approved. Funds from infrastructure payments are planned to be directed primarily to developing green areas, followed by construction of urban infrastructure facilities.
