Indian investments in Uzbekistan increased by 135% in 2025, reaching $332 million. The total investment volume exceeded $717 million and is expected to potentially surpass $1 billion in the near future. This was announced by Indian Ambassador Smita Pant at a press conference in Tashkent on February 25.
According to her, the investment dynamics were one of the key outcomes of the past year. The number of enterprises with Indian capital in Uzbekistan continues to grow, with 375 as of early 2026.
Indian businesses show the greatest interest in pharmaceuticals, machinery manufacturing, agriculture, mining, and infrastructure projects.
The ambassador emphasized that economic cooperation is supported by regular political dialogue. In September 2025, Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Uzbek President Shavkat Mirziyoyev held a meeting on the sidelines of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization summit.
In 2025, another meeting of the joint working group on digital technologies took place. Projects in IT, artificial intelligence, and cybersecurity were discussed.
The Uzbek delegation also participated in the International AI Summit in New Delhi in February 2026.
Cooperation in defense and security continues, including the work of a specialized working group and joint exercises.
Indian doctors conducted over 200 outpatient consultations in Tashkent. Patients were treated in areas such as oncology, hepatology, nephrology, orthopedics, thoracic surgery, and liver transplantation.
Over the past five years, 1,144 Uzbek citizens have received training in India under the Indian Technical and Economic Cooperation (ITEC) program. The diplomat noted that over 40% of participants selected in the last two years were women. The program includes professional development and exchange in fields like artificial intelligence, information technology, and pharmaceuticals.
According to the head of the diplomatic mission, bilateral cooperation is developing systematically, and the investment growth confirms the transition of relations to deeper economic interaction.
