Central Asian countries exhibit some of the highest water consumption rates globally, with the main burden falling on agriculture and irrigation systems.
According to Worldometer, Uzbekistan consumes about 54.56 billion cubic meters of water annually, making it the largest water user in Central Asia.
Turkmenistan ranks second with approximately 27.9 billion cubic meters per year, followed by Kazakhstan at 22.77 billion cubic meters. Tajikistan consumes about 11.49 billion cubic meters, and Kyrgyzstan around 8 billion cubic meters.
Turkmenistan also leads in per capita water consumption at up to 15,445 liters per day. Uzbekistan follows with about 4,778 liters, Tajikistan with 4,460 liters, and Kyrgyzstan with 4,153 liters. Kazakhstan has the lowest per capita consumption in the region at around 3,397 liters per day.
