President of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev, together with President of Kazakhstan Kassym-Jomart Tokayev, visited a mosque in the city of Turkestan that was built by the Uzbek side. The total area of the complex exceeds seven hectares.
According to the press service of the Uzbek leader, the building can accommodate more than five thousand worshippers. The ensemble includes four 70-meter minarets and a main three-story building with a central hall and traditional aivans. The architecture follows the best traditions of Islamic and Oriental design. The interior is adorned with elements of Islamic calligraphy and decorative art.
The surrounding area of 4.2 hectares has been landscaped with green zones, pedestrian paths, rest areas, lighting systems, decorative elements, and fountains. The complex was built as a gift from Uzbekistan to the brotherly people of Kazakhstan and the residents of Turkestan. Verses from the Quran were recited, along with prayers for peace and prosperity of the fraternal nations.
Earlier, it was reported that Shavkat Mirziyoyev would make a working visit to Kazakhstan on May 15 at the invitation of Kassym-Jomart Tokayev. An informal summit of the Organization of Turkic States (OTS) will be held in Turkestan, focusing on artificial intelligence and digital development.
